Traditional Owners
Traditional Owners
Dawson West Coal Management recognises and respects the living cultural knowledge and connection to land and water that is passed down through generations of Aboriginal people. We are committed to engaging with, and developing mutually-beneficial relationships with, those Traditional Owner groups in our area of operations at a community level. We take pride in demonstrating best practice compliance with the cultural heritage and native title requirements of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld) and the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth). This ensures that we build the foundations for stronger collaboration on the ground.
We have a depth of experience in relation to native title and cultural heritage. We are committed to:
- The Involvement of Traditional Owners — who are the guardians, keepers, and knowledge-holders of Aboriginal cultural heritage — during our activities.
- Compliance with native title and cultural heritage statutory requirements;
- Establishment of agreements with local Traditional Owner groups, which have the aim of better understanding the impact our operations may have on rights, interests, and culture; and
Compliance with the Aboriginal cultural heritage duty of care — it is our objective to operate on the principle of minimum disturbance to Aboriginal cultural heritage.
